We’re finally out of the dark and dreary days of winter! As we make the (much welcomed!) transition into spring, it’s important to make some adjustments to our skincare routine so that our complexion is best able to adapt to the environmental changes. Here are our easy-to-implement tips for transitioning your skincare routine from winter to spring.
1. Opt for Gel or Foaming Cleanser
A richer cream-based face wash is great for counteracting the drying effects of winter weather. However, as the temperatures start to warm up and humidity levels begin to rise, the skin tends to naturally get a bit oilier – which means it may not need that heavier cleanser. The spring is the perfect time to swap out your winter face wash for a lighter formula that will work all the way through the fall.
Those with dry skin should seek out a mild milky or non-foaming gel-based cleanser. This type of formula will effectively cleanse without stripping away moisture or feeling too rich on the skin. If you have oilier skin, seek out a gentle foaming gel-based cleanser. The foaming action will help whisk away excess oil and debris to keep your skin fresh and balanced.
2. Amp up the Hydrating Products
We may not be battling the dryness of winter, but that doesn’t mean our skin doesn’t need some hydration support. In fact, everyone (regardless of skin type!) can benefit from adding an extra boost of hydration to their skincare routine in the spring. As the temperatures rise, seek out lightweight skincare solutions that hydrate and soften without weighing the skin down.
We especially recommend incorporating a skin-quenching serum into your routine, as it will give your skin a potent concentration of hydrating ingredients for optimal results. Our Hyaluronic Pure Boost Serum is the perfect option for spring and beyond. The super gentle and lightweight formula floods the skin with hydration, but absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and supple. It also layers well with other serums, making it an easy solution to incorporate into your existing routine.
3. Add an Antioxidant
Antioxidants defend against free radicals in the environment that can damage the skin, causing dullness, uneven skin tone, fine lines, and other visible signs of harm. As you spend more time outside and in the sun, you’ll want a powerful antioxidant serum – like our CoQ10 Boost Serum – to give your skin that extra layer of protection against harmful aggressors.
4. Sunscreen is Your Bestie
Sunscreen is important year-round, as we’re always prone to damage from UV rays (even when it’s cloudy!). However, during the spring, we have longer days and are spending more time out in the sun. This means that it’s crucial that you have perfected your sunscreen regimen – especially before the transition into summer.
Be sure to pick out a sunscreen that you can wear on a daily basis. At the very least, you’ll want a product with SPF 30. That said, higher strength protection is better, especially for those days when you’re spending a lot of time in direct sun.
Other Spring Skincare Tips
Here are a few additional tips for maintaining healthy, glowing skin in the spring and beyond:
- Swap out your richer cream moisturizer from the winter for a lightweight gel or gel-cream formula that supports the skin without weighing it down.
- Add a gentle exfoliant to your routine to clear away dullness-causing and pore-clogging dead skin cells and debris and reveal soft, glowing, and clear skin.
- Try using a weekly mask to keep your skin in top shape. We love brightening masks to banish dull winter skin and reveal a radiant complexion that is ready for spring!
